East Cardiff is not short of somewhere to eat. What is harder to find is Caribbean food that is entirely plant-based, cooked by hand in small batches rather than turned out to a template. That is the gap we fill, from a family kitchen a short drive east in Newport.
We are Rooted Soul, a family-run, black-owned business, and everything we make is 100% plant-based. No meat, no dairy, no exceptions. You order the evening before, we cook your food fresh the next day, and it comes over in eco kraft packaging. Our kitchen holds a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating from the Food Standards Agency, and The Voice Magazine has written about what we do. There is no shop to visit, we cook and we deliver.
Rasta Pasta at £10 is the easy choice when you want something warm and filling and you do not want to think about it. Coconut Lentil Curry at £12 is the one to order if you are feeding someone who is not sure about vegan food yet. Beyond Beef Patties travel well and reheat properly, which helps if lunch is happening at a desk in Cardiff Gate rather than at home. Add Festival, Vegan Coleslaw and a slice of Jamaican Spice Bun and it becomes a proper meal.

East Cardiff is not one place. CF24 covers Roath, Adamsdown, Splott, Tremorfa and Cathays, where rows of Victorian terraces sit close to Clifton Street and Splott Market on Titan Road. CF23 runs up through Penylan and Cyncoed into Llanedeyrn, Pentwyn and Pontprennau, where the streets are newer and laid out in cul-de-sacs, with Cardiff Gate Business Park at the top end. Further east again, CF3 takes in Rumney, Llanrumney, Trowbridge and St Mellons. Different streets, same problem on a Wednesday night when nobody feels like cooking.
Newport sits just east of Cardiff on the A48, so St Mellons, Llanrumney and Rumney are a short run for us and the rest of the east side is not much further. That matters for food that is meant to be eaten, not driven around for an hour first. We cook against the orders we have already taken, load the car and bring it over ourselves. Nothing sits under a heat lamp waiting for an app to find a driver.
What We Deliver
Vegan meal prep in East Cardiff usually means one of two things. Either you want a run of dinners sorted for the week, so we put together Jerk Lentils with Rice and Peas, Macaroni No Cheese and Spinach Rice in portions you can work through, or you want one proper feed on a night when cooking is not going to happen. Saturday Soup does that job on its own. We also cater christenings, birthdays and work events across CF24, CF23 and CF3, with trays of Dumplings, Vegan Potato Salad and Jamaican Fruit Cake. We deliver to parts of East Cardiff from our Newport kitchen. As it is a little further out, delivery is by arrangement. Our standard delivery is £3.50, free on orders over £25, with a £10 minimum order, and we will confirm anything different when you get in touch.
