Vegan Caribbean cooking delivered to Chepstow, a market town that still runs on small independent shops. Order the evening before.
Vegan Caribbean, Delivered
Chepstow takes its name from the Old English for a market place, and the town has never really stopped being one. The High Street still runs on independent shops rather than chains, and once a month it closes to traffic for the Sunday market, food stalls and makers the length of it. Shopping here means small counters and people who know what they sell. That is a good sign for anyone bringing vegan Caribbean food into town.
We are Rooted Soul, a black-owned family kitchen in Newport, about 16 miles down the road. Everything we make is plant-based, cooked by hand in small batches, and packed in eco kraft boxes for the drive over. There is no shop to visit and no counter to queue at. You tell us what you want the evening before, we cook it the next day, and it arrives ready to eat or heat.
Coconut lentil curry is a good place to start, thick and mild enough for a Sunday and easy with spinach rice. Rasta pasta does the job on a weeknight when nobody wants to think about cooking. Saturday soup is exactly what it sounds like, a proper bowl after a cold walk back from the castle. Add festival to dip, a spoon of vegan coleslaw on the side, and a slice of Jamaican spice bun to keep for later in the week.
Why Rooted Soul
Every dish fully vegan, with no meat, no dairy and no compromise on flavour.
Family recipes and bold island flavour in every single bowl.
Cooked by hand in small batches in Newport, never mass-produced.
Delivered to Chepstow in eco-friendly kraft packaging, ready to heat.
Chepstow sits right on the border, the Wye on one side and England on the other bank, so NP16 covers addresses in two countries. It runs from Bulwark and Sedbury out to Beachley, St Arvans, Tintern, Shirenewton and Devauden. Walking and racing shape a lot of weekends here. Offa's Dyke Path starts at Sedbury Cliffs just across the water, and Chepstow Racecourse, up in Piercefield Park, holds the Welsh Grand National in late December. People tend to eat around whatever they have been doing that day.
Chepstow is well served for pubs and cafes. Caribbean food is harder to come by, and vegan Caribbean food harder still, which is a large part of why we deliver this far east. We hold a 5 star food hygiene rating from the FSA, and our cooking has been featured in The Voice Magazine. The part that matters locally is simpler though. You get proper Jamaican flavour, cooked to order, without driving to Bristol or Cardiff for it.
What We Deliver
We deliver across Chepstow and the surrounding NP16 addresses, including Bulwark, Thornwell, Pwllmeyric, Mathern, Sedbury, Tutshill and the Wye Valley villages towards Tintern. Orders go in the evening before, so we can shop and cook to the number of portions we actually need. Some people take a single tray to try, others set up a week of vegan meal prep in Chepstow and put a few boxes in the freezer. We also cater events, from a christening to a gathering after a day at the races. Call 07962 816936 and tell us what you need and when.
